Relationships Education and Health Education

(**Edited 25th November 2021 after further consultation)

We want all of our Bidston Avenue children to grow up healthy, happy, safe, and able to manage the challenges and opportunities of modern Britain.  That is why, from September 2020, all primary age children will be taught Relationships and Health Education.

These subjects are designed to equip your child with knowledge to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships as well as preparing them for a successful adult life.

The world for all young people looks very different from the way it did 20 years ago when this curriculum was last updated – these changes bring the content into the 21st century, so that it is relevant for your child. Bidston Avenue Primary School have the flexibility to deliver the content in a way that is age and developmentally appropriate and sensitive to the needs and religious background of its pupils.

At Bidston Avenue Primary, we use the 1decision resources, which have been developed over the past nine years and were created by specialists working together with schools, and most importantly, children.  All materials have received the Quality Mark from the PSHE Association, which means that schools and parents can be assured that they include the very best practice as part of a whole-school approach to keeping children safe, happy, and healthy.

The 1decision platform has been designed to be interactive, fun, and engaging for your child.  At its core are a series of short film clips with alternative endings, which encourage children to consider the consequences of different decisions.

**We always inform parents/carers prior to puberty (year 5)/conception (year 6) units.  There is an opportunity provided to parents to review the materials beforehand and, in year 6, to possibly withdraw, if necessary.  **Withdrawal is only from the conception unit as puberty is part of the national curriculum for science.

Below, we have attached documents to highlight what we aim to do and how we do it.  The 2020 policy has been revised, once more, after on-going consultation.

Please complete the consultation via the link below, which is always open (no closing date) as we will periodically review comments to adapt and improve our offer and policy.
